Hilgers Pendulum

This appliance produces a molar distalizing effect in the maxilla in the range of approximately 4 to 5 mm. A large acrylic button is used as an anchor component and .036 TMA™ springs produce a light continuous force against the molars. The anchor component is secured to the bicuspids or primary molars with bands or bonding.

It should be noted that this design incorporates an inverted horizontal loop placed half way between the helix and the molar tubes. By opening the horizontal loop, a buccal or distal uprighting force is created producing a bodily movement of the molders.
